ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Appoints Aaron Bruce New Director of Diversity
Bruce will be responsible for campus-wide strategies related to diversity and strengthening the universitys connections to San Diego's diverse local and global communities.
Aaron Bruce has been named director of diversity at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½. Bruce will be responsible for campus-wide strategies related to diversity and strengthening the university’s connections to San Diego’s diverse local and global communities.
"Aaron’s passion for global understanding and his diverse background make him uniquely qualified to serve as director of diversity," said ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ President Stephen L. Weber. "San Diego State and our greater community will greatly benefit from Aaron’s breadth of experience both in higher education and in business worldwide."

Bruce holds an international M.B.A. from the United States International University and has completed study on a Ph.D. in education from the University of Rhode Island. Bruce has held management positions with companies in Latin America and Africa and has conducted research on management strategies, public health and education in Cuba, Mexico and Kenya.

Prior to joining ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ on June 30, Bruce served as director of multicultural affairs at Rhode Island College where he developed policies and programming supporting underrepresented students including racial and ethnic minorities, international students, women, students with disabilities and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning students.
ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has received national attention for its success in enrolling and graduating underrepresented students. Most recently, ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ was ranked No. 10 in the nation for awarding bachelor’s degrees to ethnic minorities.
In addition, more than half of the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ student body is comprised of ethnic minorities and over the past decade more than one-third of ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½â€™s tenured or tenure-track faculty hires have been ethnic minorities as well.
