Middle and High Schoolers Compete for MESA

The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Mathematics, Engineering and Science Achievement program hosts its preliminaries on Feb. 26.

The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½â€™s MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) Schools Program will host its annual MESA Day Preliminaries on Saturday, Feb. 26, throughout the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ campus. 

County-wide competition

All 20 ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ MESA Schools Program participants will compete to qualify for the middle and high school regionals, including schools from the:

  • San Diego Unified School District
  • Escondido Union and High School Union districts
  • La Mesa-Spring Valley School District
  • Borrego Springs Unified School District

Variety of projects

Students have worked since September designing, creating, testing and refining their projects in preparation for MESA Days. 

In addition to math and speech competitions, other activities include:

  • Mousetrap cars
  • Gliders
  • Popsicle stick bridges
  • Manila folder bridges
  • Balsa wood bridges
  • Models of the human eye and brain
  • Creating a prosthetic arm

Moving to regional competitions

ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ MSP students who qualify for the Middle School MESA Day Regionals will compete on Saturday, April 2, at Chapman University against other MSP students in the Southern Region MESA Centers. The high school students who qualify for regionals will compete on Saturday, April 9, at University of California Irvine.
